Florida Tea Parties - Who is the Indian River Tea Party?
Simply stated, we are Indian River County citizens committed to promoting the principles of Limited Government, Fiscal and Individual Responsibility and a strong Free Market Economy through education and grass roots civic activity.
"We, the people are the rightful masters of both Congress and the courts, not to overthrow the Constitution, but to overthrow men who pervert the Constitution." Abraham Lincoln
In April 2009 a simple announcement was made that all citizens who were concerned with the direction our nation was heading, especially in regard to the overwhelming deficit spending and resulting national debt, could gather at the Indian River County Administration Complex and make their collective voices heard. You not only responded, but did so in record number with an estimated 3500+ in attendance. It was a day of inspiration, a day which gave us hope for our future.

After the 2009 event, residents expressed their desire to create a venue which encouraged participation in government at all levels. In 2009, candidate forums were held to educate voters on those running for City Council. The outcome of that election was clear, "We as citizens are forced to tighten the belt and live within our means and we expect our government to do the same". The IRTP continued to research and report on issues affecting our community and to provide ongoing opportunities to engage in national, state and local issues. The IRTP hosted a Community Day of Awareness on April 16, 2010. What a statement you made as over 4,500 actively engaged citizens participated in the largest Tea Party gathering in the state of Florida!

The IRTP continued its efforts to educate and inform residents and the effects were felt near and far. In the 2010 elections, voters removed many from public office and installed representatives who they saw as upholding Tea Party principles. The momentum continued and on March 25th, 2011 over 6,000 people gathered at the Indian River Fairgrounds for the third annual Tea Party event. Families from all walks of life enjoyed an evening of fun and inspiration and were encouraged to hear from their state and federal representatives that the message is, in fact, being heard.

So where do we go from here? While the IRTP Board is committed to providing the necessary tools for the residents of Indian River County to effectively engage in creating government "Of the people, by the people and for the people", the essential element in moving forward is YOU...spread the word... VOTE ...and join the cause with your time and financial support. We welcome your feedback and participation in restoring the principles of our forefathers, principles which will strengthen our community, our state and our nation. Thank you in advance for joining this historic movement of freedom-loving Americans.
"Let each citizen remember at the moment he is offering his vote that he is not making a present or a compliment to please an individual — or at least that he ought not so to do; but that he is executing one of the most solemn trusts in human society for which he is accountable to God and his country." Samuel Adams
